The following items from the YCM notes on 2/09/10 were highlighted by Nabeel for special attention or input from parents:

Daytona, preliminary headcount: Among the parents present, four youth were represented as planning on going to Daytona. This is slightly concerning, considering the nature of this trip. It's going to be a great time, and I'd love for at least 10 kids to go. We need to have a final count by March 24th. Please let me know if you're planning on sending your kids! After March, seats may not be available (and will at least be more expensive). $100 deposits are also due on this date.

Feeding the homeless on 3/17/10: This will take the place of our usual Wednesday night bible study. We will need a total of about 10 chaperones, so please sign up with Lisa Watson! It should be a great time of service and fellowship.

Game/movie night 3/26/10: At church, no cost. I'm considering turning this into "crossover" -- this is one of the most popular things we have done in the youth group, and it has turned prospective visitors into regular members at our church. We will need plenty of volunteers to help!

Hello everyone! Here's a brief update!

1 - Romanian gypsies are coming to sing tomorrow night! Mark says it turns out they're not children, but youth. That means we should send our youth to support them in spirit! Besides, I think it'd be pretty cool if our youth hung out with Romanian Christians. They could learn a lot about their culture and how Christ is honored in their home land. Church, tomorrow night, 7pm.

2 - On account of the Romanian gypsies, Dear John has been moved to Saturday, at 4:30 pm. We will be meeting at church and going from there.

3 - Superbowl party is at the Pollards'. Attached is a flyer they sent. Essentially, we will be meeting at the church at 5:30 and driving over to the Pollards from there. If you'd like, you can go directly to the Pollards and drop your kids off there. The address is 4116 Margaret Ann Ct, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Kickoff is around 6:20. Don't forget, it's a school night! So please pick your kids up when the game is over, no later than 9-10pm. The youth can bring their favorite snack for themselves and some friends.

4 - Visitations are being moved to Monday, 2/8, on account of the superbowl! Same times: 6-8 pm. Please let me know if you can drive! They've been going great so far, so let's keep it up!

5 - Youth Committee meeting reminder! 7 o'clock on Tuesday 2/9. We'll be meeting in the library.

6 - Bowling lock-in: February 19th. Get your kids to invite their friends! Cost will be $20.

I've got three things for you today:

1 - Ski Trip information
If you're going on the reward trip, here's some info for you:
We are meeting at church at 8am on Friday. We'll be going to Courtyard by Marriott in Harrisonburg. Friday night will be tubing, Saturday morning will be the indoor water park, Saturday night will be skiing, Sunday morning will be church, Sunday evening will be skiing, and we'll return home on Monday. We should be home on Monday around 3pm.

What to bring:
Money: The hotel where we're staying is a few miles away from the resort, so we'll either be driving ourselves or taking the shuttle bus. We will be eating meals at local restuarants and/or the restaurant in the hotel. I would suggest bringing $100 for food.
Clothes: Make sure you bring your ski clothes! These can be expensive, and they will not be provided by the resort. In addition, bring your regular clothes for the season. The weather forecast can be found here. (Highs in the upper 20's to lower 30's.)
Bibles: We will be having small group bible studies, so bring your bibles and pens/pencils!

2 - Daytona Beach
I need a count of parents who will probably be sending their kids ASAP!. This isn't a final number, but just a rough count. We need to pay deposits asap if we're going to go, so I just wanted a heads up on how many are probably sending their kids. As a reminder, This will be July 11th-16th, with a per-student cost in the mid-upper 200's.

3 - "Dear John"
This will be an event that the youth department is coordinating, but I'm not necessarily putting my "stamp of approval" on this movie. I would like each parent who is sending his or her child to watch the trailer and determine for yourselves whether you think this movie is appropriate for your son or daughter. It is rated PG-13, is about a young couple in love, and includes scenes of intimacy that some parents might not be comfortable with. Again, standards are different for every parent, so I will leave it to you to make the call.

4 - Visitations this Sunday
There are none! So we wont need drivers this week, January 31, 2010. Thanks!
